Artists' Colony
Discover a unique place in the San Diego mountains that provides an affordable setting for artists of all creative work.
Artists painters, sculptors, writers, artisan craftspeople, and musicians will:
- Find peace and quiet in a nature reserve that inspires creativity
- Carve out space and time to think and to dream
- Uncover a structure for the act of creating art
- Visit or live in a community of like-minded people
- Enjoy passionate discussion around a campfire
- Learn from master artists via demonstrations and classes
- Develop a marketplace for artworks
If you are a person who does art for a living and you can produce even when at home or in the city, just think what could be the outcome if you spent dedicated time in nature.
If you are a person who wants to shift from being a hobbyist to being a full-time artist, perhaps putting your focus on art at least 2 full days a week could give you the impetus for the shift.
If you love to do your art but somehow the chaos of life puts art to the bottom of the list, then the form of the Artists' Colony may encourage you to step out of your life for a while.

If you feel alone because those who surround you are non-artists, then belonging to the Artists' Colony may offer companionship of people similar to you.
Above all, spending time in nature encourages a deeper spiritual connection that will be expressed in your work. It is said that 'nature is art' and nowhere else in the world can you observe this to be so true. There has been very little rainfall for several years, and yet, look at what is springing forth from earth, from nothing.
If nature can be a metaphor for your creative energy, then the produce of nature can be an illustration of your output. And belonging to Sacred Rocks Artists' Colony will motivate you to great works of art.
Vision

Eventually, there will be a 'long-house' with areas available for working artists all in the same building. One side will be open to the beautiful hillside and fresh air. There will be place to display and sell artwork. Art contests and shows will be planned.
Current entry to the Artists' Colony is through the security gate at the campground. Planned is a separate entry.
Habitations are currently Wigwam Tents, Vacation Cottages, Bunkhouse, and RVs, however planned are more permanent structures such as yurts, cabañas and boulder huts. These structures will be grouped in compounds that resemble African villages with a common fire circle in the center. Artists may stay for a time or just overnight. It will be possible for members to purchase their own approved habitation and rent/lease space in the Colony.
Sacred Rocks Mountain Homes are small cottages available for sale. They are built with many green features, and are the first solar park model homes in the country.
While there are places to stay for short and long term, since Sacred Rocks is only about an hour from San Diego, visitors may come for a day trip.
