Sacred Rocks Reserve is set aside for our families, friends and guests to enjoy nature, enjoy the outdoors, and to preserve this natural, wonderful, living history for all to share.
People of future generations will be able to continue to explore and play and unwind with each visit to Sacred Rocks Reserve because of our conscious eco-friendly efforts, and the efforts made by our guests.
Sacred Rock Reserve Earth-Friendly Green Practices
Almost 80 tons of trash were removed from the property and 850 abandoned tires recycled during 2003, the year the park was purchased by the current owners. For the full story see our history.
Here are some of the steps we've taken to become the Greenest RV Park in America. In sharing them, we hope you will find some tips that you can use to green your own businesses.
How to Make your Business Eco-Friendly Step 1
RV site foundations are made of DG, or decomposed granite, an attractive, recycled material.
Annual collections of blankets and old jackets are taken to those in Boulevard, CA who could benefit from them.
Extensive measures have been taken to rescue and protect 300-400 year old oak trees on the property from deadly insect infestations. Each year, a special vitamin shot goes into the taproot and the trees also are sprayed (non-toxic to humans).
How to Make your Business Eco-Friendly Step 2
All fallen trees and branches become recycled firewood for guests. No outside firewood is allowed, due to pest infestations coming from outside wood, which could threaten the massive oaks on the property. Guests are educated about why it's so important to AVOID MOVING FIREWOOD.
Fire circles, which protect campers and their surroundings from escaping flames and sparks, are made from old washing machine tubs and recycled steel rims of large tires.
Well water in the park is pumped into a tank from aquifers, lakes 380 feet underground, and gravity-fed to each campsite. All guests are encouraged to use water conservation techniques. All ice sold at the RV Park is made from this wonderful well water!
Camper guests are required to use only biodegradable products in septic tanks and for washing dishes.
Sacred Rocks RV Park won the 2009-2010 ARVC's Plan-It Green Award for pledging to adhere to earth-friendly practices such as water and energy conservation, recycling, tree planting...
How to Make Your Business Eco-Friendly Step 3
The park's pool and spa use solar blankets to heat the water and to keep the heat from dissipating at night. A salt generator is used in the pool instead of chlorine. The pool and spa are closed from November to May because the weather gets cool, the energy usage is unnecessary and cost is high.
Winter Energy Conservation Strategies for The Most Earth Friendly Park in America
Drought tolerant landscaping is carefully chosen for the park -- there is no lawn or heavy watering.
Education about native plants is encouraged among park staff and guests. For example: buckthorn berries can be used as a natural soap. A handful in your shower gets the body "Green Clean!"
Composted wood chips and leaves are used around new plantings. The wood chips also are re-used to make the pathway of the park's giant outdoor Labyrinth.
The Greenest, Most Eco-Friendly, Most Earth Conscious, Southern California RV Park is Sacred Rocks RV Park
Because we use water pumped from our well in the laundry room, the water cleans without the hard water chemicals present in municipal treated water systems.
Efficient tankless hot water heaters have been installed in guest restrooms to heat water on demand, saving hundreds of KW hours of electricity. Quarter-metered showers help guests to be conscious of water use. All flushing toilets are low-water fixtures.
How to Make your Business Eco-Friendly, Step 4
Low voltage, low sodium, and fluorescent lighting have been used, only where it is necessary to illuminate, so that the view of the stars is vivid as possible. We even maintain a special Stargazing Plateau to inspire the astronomer within.
In an effort to be the "Greenest" park in America, our Workampers have placed recycling containers throughout the park for aluminum cans, glass and plastic bottles. Money collected from the recycled items will go towards the "Workamper Celebration Fund".
The Sacred Rocks Mountain Homes available for a luxury stay are eco-friendly, using recycles and/or sustainable building materials, plus solar panels and other energy-saving technology.
